  • The process by which a substance changes from a solid state to a liquid state is called fusion.
  • Fusion is also called melting
  • When we supply heat to a solid substance, they gain energy and start vibrating in its own position.
  • A point is reached where they gain enough energy to overcome the force of interaction and thus start moving and change into a liquid.
  • For example, when ice is heated at 0°C (273 K) the intermolecular force breaks down between the ice particles and thus converts into a liquid state.
