The ratio of the number of teeth in the driving wheel to the number of teeth in the driven wheel is known as the gear ratio.
The driving wheel is closer to the source of power and the driven wheel receives power from the driving wheel.
If number of tooth in driving wheel is $N_{D}$ and in driven wheel is $N_{d}$ , then gear ratio is $\frac{N_{D}}{N_{d}}$ .
