Gross Enrolment Ratio or GER, at higher education level, is the ratio of people enrolled in higher education to the population in the age group of 18-23.
In 2017-18, India’s GER was 27.4%. It means out of 100 people who ideally should be studying in colleges, only about 27 were actually enrolled in colleges.
The government of India has targeted to raise the Gross Enrolment Ratio to 50% by 2035.
