Biotic components:

  • This is the living part of the ecosystem.
  • This includes all the living things like organisms (animals, plants, and decomposers).

Heterotrophs:

  • Heterotrophs do not synthesize their food. They consume/eat or feed on or get the energy from other organisms.
  • They are usually called consumers because they consume and do not synthesize.
  • The four types of heterotrophs are herbivores, carnivores, parasites, and omnivores.
  • Examples include microorganisms like fungi, tapeworms, and all animals.
