Inbreeding is the mating of closely related individuals of same breed. Inbreeding depression may be defined as reduction in fertility and productivity due to continuous inbreeding.
Plant discourage inbreeding depression by avoiding self pollination with various means such as
1. Position of anther and stigma are different in some plants which does not allow the pollen of same flower to contact the stigma and avoid the self pollination.
2. Some plants produce only unisexual flowers.

Inbreeding depression can also be avoid by cross breeding.
