The line of symmetry is an imaginary line, when we fold or cut the figure along the dotted line of symmetry, the figure is exactly divided into two identical halves.
Example:

The above isosceles triangle has divided into two identical parts with dotted line AB in above figure.
Thus, line AB acts as a line of symmetry for given isosceles triangle.
