  1. Definition: The process of separating the solid-solid mixture by using a magnet is called magnetic separation.
  2. For this separation method, one component of the mixture must get attracted to a magnet.
  3. Mixture: The substance having two or more elements or compounds which combine physically and not chemically are called mixtures.
  4. This method of separation is possible only when one of the constituents in the mixture is magnetic in nature.
  5. For example, a mixture of Sulphur and Iron filings, a mixture of sand and iron filings, a mixture of iron filings and sawdust, etc.
