Define magnification produce by mirror? How is it related to object distance and image distance?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

The magnification is ratio of the height of the image formed to that of the object.

The ratio of the size of the image to the size of the object is called linear magnification. It is denoted by m.

For a mirror , m = - ( v / u )

For a lens , m = + ( v / u )

If the image formed is virtual then the magnification has positive value and in case of real images, it is negative.
