Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass.
Solid, liquid, and gases are three states of matter.
Examples: Air, chair, pen, etc.
Love, hatred, and suspicion cannot be considered as matter because they are kinds of emotions, and they cannot be measured in terms of mass and volume.
Three states of matter:
Solids
Solids do have a fixed shape and fixed volume.
Intermolecular force of attraction between the molecules of solids is high.
As the molecules of solid are fixed at their positions due to the high intermolecular force of attraction.
Its molecules do not possess translatory motion because of the negligible intermolecular space.
Due to the fixed position of molecules, solids are not compressible.
Liquid
Liquids have definite volume but no definite shape.
Liquids have the property to flow because they have a less intermolecular force of attraction as compared to solids.
Due to less intermolecular force of attraction, they acquire the shape of the container in which they are kept.
Gases
Gases do not have definite shape and volume.
There is almost no force of attraction between the molecules of a gas.
Due to no force of attraction the molecules move in a random direction, and they do not have a fixed shape and fixed volume.
