Question

Define mechanical energy.

Open in App
Solution

Mechanical energy:

  1. The total quantity of kinetic and potential energy in an object utilised to perform a given task is known as mechanical energy.
  2. The energy of an element due to its location, motion, or both can alternatively be characterised as mechanical energy.
  3. An object's position generates potential energy, whereas its motion generates kinetic energy.
  4. When an object is moving on the ground, its potential energy is zero, and when the object is at rest, its kinetic energy is zero.
  5. Mechanical energy is calculated using the formula

M.E=K.E+P.E

M.E=12mv2+mgh

Where,

m = mass of an object

v = velocity of an object

g = acceleration due to gravity

h = height of an object
