Meristematic tissues are growth tissues found in the growing regions of the plant. Are made up of actively dividing cells. The cells of this tissue can multiply and produce new cells.

The cells of the meristematic tissue show the following characteristics:

1. The cells of meristematic tissue are similar in structure and have thin cellulose cell walls.

2. The meristematic cells may be spherical, oval, polygonal or rectangular in shape.

3. The cells are compactly arranged and do not contain any intercellular space between them.

4. Each meristematic cell contains dense or abundant cytoplasm and a single large nucleus.
