Question

Define molecular mass.

Open in App
Solution

Molar mass can be defined as the total sum of the masses of the atoms or elements present in the molecule is termed as molecular mass.

  1. For example, molecular mass of water (H2O) = 2×(atomic mass of H)+ atomic mass of O = 2×(1)+ 16 = 18u.
  2. Similarly molecular mass of N2 molecule = 2×(atomic mass of N ) = 2×(14) = 28u.

Therefore, molecular mass simply refers to mass of a molecule.
