Definition of Non-metals: The elements which form negative ions by gaining or accepting electrons are called non-metals.

Physical Properties of Non-Metals:

  • Non-Metals are Brittle.
  • Non-Metals are Non-lustrous or dull in appearance
  • Non-Metals are soft
  • Non-Metals are poor conductors of Heat and Electricity
  • Non-Metals are Non-Sonorous
  • Non-Metals have low Melting Point and Boiling Point
  • Non-Metals have Low Densities
  • Non–Metals have Different Colours
  • Non-Metals have Low Tensile Strength

Examples: CarbonC, OxygenO, SulphurS, NitrogenN, etc. are non-metal elements.
