Solution

Osmoregulation

Osmoregulation is the process by which an organism can maintain or regulate its internal fluid pressure and electrolyte balance irrespective of the change in an external environment.

The ways by which animals osmoregulate their body are:

  • If the water concentration is low and electrolyte concentration is high in the blood, the animals tend to retain the water within the body and lose the extra electrolytes via concentrated urine.
  • If the water concentration is high and salt concentration is low in the blood, the animals tend to release more urine and reabsorb most of the salts or electrolytes.
