Question

Define pH. Find the pH of 0.05 M Ba(OH)2 aqueous solution.

Open in App
Solution

The pH of a solution is defined as the negative logarithm, to the base 10, of the molar concentration of H+ ions in solution.
pH=log10[H+]
[Ba(OH)2]=0.05M
[OH]=2×[Ba(OH)2]=2×0.05M=0.10M
pOH=log10[OH]=log10=0.10=1
pH=14pOH=141=13
