Question

Define photophosphorylation and non-cyclic photophosphorylation.

Open in App
Solution

Photophosphorylation is the process of formation of the ATP molecule from ADP and inorganic phosphate by using the energy obtained from the absorption of sun-light during the photosynthesis in plants.
Non-cyclic photophosphorylation involves the flow of electron from PS-II after the absorption of sunlight by the chlorophyll and then flow of this electron across the chain of various electron receptors to the PS-I. In the process of electron transport, the proton motive force is generated that is used of formation of the ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate.
