Plasma:

  1. The fluid part of the blood that gives liquid nature to the blood is known as the plasma.
  2. Plasma is a straw-colored (slightly yellow) fluid.
  3. It occupies about 50-60% of the total blood volume.
  4. It contains water, proteins, inorganic salts, glucose, hormones, etc.

Functions of plasma:

  1. Plasma plays an eminent role in maintaining the body's pH.
  2. The plasma contains clotting factors (fibrinogen) that help in blood coagulation.
  3. Other functions include maintenance of heat, immunity, defense mechanism, osmotic balance, etc.
