Question

define polarising angle and critical angle. establish relation between them

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

polarising angle: the angle at which unpolarized light or other electromagnetic radiation must be incident upon a nonmetallic surface for the reflected radiation to acquire maximum plane polarization .
Critical angle: the angle of incidence beyond which rays of light passing through a denser medium to the surface of a less dense medium are no longer refracted but totally reflected.
to find the relation between them tani=μ; it means that if refractive index is μ then angle must be such that tani = μ for polarization of reflected light.now reflection takes place between two transparent media when it is incident at critical angle.at critical angle TIRtake place.sinθc=1/μtherforesinθc=1/taniRegards
