Question

Define polymerization. How is ethane polymerized? What happens to ethane when treated with bromine water?

Open in App
Solution

Polymerization is a process in which relatively small molecules, called monomers, combine chemically to produce a very large chain like or network molecule, called a polymer.
Ethane cannot be polymerised because it is saturated hydrocarbon. No reaction will take place with bromine water due to the same reason (lack of unsaturation, no double or triple bond).
