Define refractive index of a medium . Write two factors on which it depends

The absolute refractive index of a medium is defined as the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum (or air) to the speed of light in that medium i.e., $n=\frac{c}{v}$.
The refractive index n is also defined as the ratio of the sine of the angle of incidence to the sine of the angle of refraction:
$n=\frac{\sin i}{\sin r}$

Refractive index of a medium depends upon the following factors:

1.The wavelength of the light
2. Optical density
3. The refractive index of the surrounding medium.
