Question

Define root pressure and transpirational pull

Open in App
Solution

Dear student, Root pressure is the osmotic pressure in the cells of the root that causes the cell sap to rise through the stem to the leaves. It occurs in the xylem under the conditions of low transpiration or excess soil moisture. Transpiration pull is a major factor governing sap transport in the xylem. this pull is exerted on the water column in the xylem vessels. the pull is generated due to transpiration of water from the surface of the leaves.
