Open in App
Solution

Root pressure:

Root pressure is a type of positive hydrostatic pressure that drives the transport of water and minerals upwards into the xylem.

Development of ascent of sap:

  1. Ascent of sap is the upward translocation of water and minerals from the root system towards the aerial parts of plants such as leaves.
  2. Root pressure is a type of transverse osmotic pressure in the root system that helps in the development of ascent of sap in the leaves.
  3. It drives the inflow of water from the soil into the root hair cells.
  4. This pressure causes the sap to rise from the root system towards the aerial parts of the plants.
