Solution
The modern periodic table is an arrangement of all the elements by their increasing atomic number and recurring chemical properties.
It is a tabular display of 118 chemical elements which consists of horizontal rows called periods and vertical columns are called groups.
S block elements:
The elements of Group 1 and Group 2 of the modern periodic table are called
S-block elements
.
There are two possibilities either there is 1 electron in s subshell or 2 electrons in s subshell.
The s-block elements having only one electron in their s-orbital are called group one or alkali metals.
The
alkali metals
consist of the chemical elements lithium (Li), sodium (Na), potassium (K), rubidium (Rb), cesium (Cs), and francium (Fr).
The s block elements having two electrons filling their s-orbital are called group two or
alkaline
-
earth metal.
The
alkaline
-
earth metal
consists
of the chemical elements beryllium (Be) magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), strontium (Sr), barium (Ba), and radium (Ra).
