Soil pollution is defined as the accumulation of persistent toxic
compounds, chemicals, salts, radioactive materials, or disease causing
agents, which have adverse effects on plant growth and animal health.
Soil pollution is caused by the presence of xenobiotic (humanmade)
chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment. It is
typically caused by industrial activity, agricultural chemicals, or
improper disposal of waste.
Soil erosion is the displacement of the upper
layer of soil, one form of soil degradation. This natural process is
caused by the dynamic activity of erosive agents, that is, water, ice
(glaciers), snow, air (wind), plants, animals, and humans.
