Soil pollution is defined as the contamination of soil by pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, industrial wastes, dumping of garbage, etc.
Following are the causes of soil pollution:
Excessive use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, weedicides and herbicides in agriculture
Unchecked release of sewage or wastes into the soil
Industrial chemical wastes being discharged directly into the soil
Contamination of soil by non-biodegradable wastes such as plastics, metals, etc.
