Solution

Colloidal solution:

  1. A colloid is a type of mixture in which the size of solute particles is intermediate to that of true solution and suspension and it has two phases: dispersed phase (like solute) and dispersion medium (like solvent).
  2. The dispersed phase is the compound which is present in small proportion and consists of particles of colloidal dimensions (10-9mto10-7m.)
  3. A dispersion medium is a component which is present in excess and acts as a medium in which colloidal particles are dispersed.

Sol: Sol is a colloidal solution in which the dispersion medium is liquid and dispersing phase is solid.

Example - paints, mud, gold sol.
