Question

Define solubility? what is the effect of temperature on the solubility of a solid in liquid solution?

Solution

Part 1: Solubility

  • The amount of solute that can be dissolved in a solvent to form a solution at a particular temperature is called solubility
  • when a solute dissolves in a solvent, the solution will be formed

Part 2: Effect of temperature

The solubility of solids in the liquid solution, for example, we can take sugar(solid) in water(liquid) with an increase in temperature increases because

  • The rise in temperature causes the breakage of bonds in solids and causes them to dissolve in a solvent
  • In this way, we can increase the solubility of solid in liquid and the resultant solution will be a supersaturated solution as it contains more amount of solute than in the normal condition
