1. Specific gravity or relative density of a substance is defined as the ratio of the density of the substance to the density of water at $4°\mathrm{C}$.

i.e., Relative density = ${\rho }_{subs\tan ce}$$/$ ${\mathrm{\rho }}_{\mathrm{water}}$

where,${\rho }_{subs\tan ce}$ = density of substance and ${\rho }_{water}$ = density of water at $4°\mathrm{C}$

2. Specific gravity is a unitless quantity as it is the ratio of the same quantity.
