Define the commercial unit of electricity

Open in App
Solution

  1. Electric power is defined as the rate of consumption of energy.
  2. Power(P)=Electricenergy(E)time(T).
  3. According to the above formula,Electricenergy(E)=power(P)×time(T)
  4. If the power in watts and time is in seconds, then the energy consumed is in joules.
  5. Commercially, we use Kilowatt-hour (KWh) for electric energy consumption.
  6. 1KWh=1000Wh=3.6×106J.
  7. 1 KWh is also known as 1 unit of electricity consumed in the circuit.

Hence, 1KWh is the electrical energy consumed when 1000 watts of power is used for 1 hour.
