The attractive forces between atoms, molecules or ions to form compounds is called a chemical bond. It involves either the transfer or sharing of electrons between different atoms, ions or molecules.
Chemical bond is of two types: Ionic bond and Covalent bond.
Ionic bond is formed by the transfer of electrons while covalent bond is formed by the sharing of electrons between the atoms, ions or molecules.
Examples: In Sodium chloride (NaCl), there is a bond formed between Sodium ion (Na+) and Chloride ion (Cl-) by the transfer of electron.
