  • The attractive forces between atoms, molecules or ions to form compounds is called a chemical bond. It involves either the transfer or sharing of electrons between different atoms, ions or molecules.
  • Chemical bond is of two types: Ionic bond and Covalent bond.
  • Ionic bond is formed by the transfer of electrons while covalent bond is formed by the sharing of electrons between the atoms, ions or molecules.
  • Examples: In Sodium chloride (NaCl), there is a bond formed between Sodium ion (Na+) and Chloride ion (Cl-) by the transfer of electron.
