Structure and organisational level | Description |
Muscle (Organ) | A muscle consists of hundred to thousands of muscle cells plus connective tissue wrappings the blood vessels and nerve fibres. |
Muscle fibre | A muscle fibre is a multinucleated cell. It has a banded appearance. A muscle fibre is basically formed when a large unit of myofibrils are arranged together. |
Myofibril | Myofibrils are rod-like contractile elements. Composed of sarcomere arranged end to end. |
Sarcomere | A sarcomere is a contractile unit composed of filaments made up of contractile elements. |
Filaments | Filaments are the smallest unit of a muscle. These are of two types thick and thin filament. Thick filaments contain myosin molecule and thin filaments contain actin molecule. |
