Definition

  • When some hydrates are exposed to the atmosphere, they lose their water of crystallization partially or completely, resulting in the formation of a powder. Such substances are called efflorescent substances .
  • The phenomenon is known as Efflorescence.

Examples

  • Sodium carbonate Na2CO3.10H2O and sodium sulfate (Na2SO4.10H2O).
