Solution
The seed:
A seed is a fertilized and matured ovule.
A seed is formed as a result of fertilization of an egg produced by female with a male gamete within the embryo sac of an ovule.
There can be the development of as many seeds as there are ovules but generally all ovules do not result in the formation of seeds.
A typical seed consists of three essential parts-
the embryo, endosperm, and seed coat.
There are two types of seeds depending on the basis of the
number of cotyledons
present in a seed-
Monocotyledonous seeds and Dicotyledonous seeds.
Monocotyledonous seeds
are those which have a single cotyledon.
Dicotyledonous seeds
are those which have two cotyledons.
