  • The number of atoms that constitute one molecule of an element, is called its atomicity.
  • Depending upon the number of atoms in one molecule of an element, they are classified as monoatomic, diatomic, triatomic, and polyatomic molecules.
  • For example, nitrogen(N2) and oxygen(O2) are diatomic in nature because each molecule of nitrogen and oxygen is two atoms of Nitrogen and oxygen respectively.
