The Constituent Assembly of India were the makers of the Indian constitution. The assembly was formed on December 6, 1946. First meeting of the Assembly was held in December 1946. The Assembly adopted Indian Constitution originally in the year 1949.
The Constituent Assembly consisted of members who were indirectly elected by the provincial legislatures of British India. From December 1946 to June 1947, it had 389 members. From June 1947 to January 1950, it had 299 members. The other members went to Pakistan.
