Decomposition reaction : A reaction in which a complex reactant is converted into two or more simple molecule, then the reaction is called as decomposition reaction.

In other words, decomposition reaction is separation of a substance into two or more simple substances which have different properties from each other and that of the original substance.

Ex: AB -> A + B

Thermal decomposition

In chemical reaction, decomposition of calcium carbonate on heating produces calcium oxide and carbon dioxide gas which are different in nature,

CaCO3 -> CaO + CO2

2.Electrolytic decomposition-
2H2O --------> 2Hā€‹2+O2
