Soil is the upper layer of the earth comprising of rock particles, organic and inorganic material on which plants grow.

a. Laterite soil develops in regions characterised by heavy rainfall, high temperatures is suitable ​for cultivation of tea, coffee
b. It is generally rusty red in colour because of iron oxide content in it.Red laterite soil is found in areas like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh
c. However, yellow laterite soil is also found in regions characterized by temperate climate.
d. Laterite soil is Low in humus content and is productive in nature.
