Question

Define the terms conductivity and molar conductivity for the solution of an electrolyte. Comment on their variation with temperature.

Open in App
Solution

The conductivity of the solution is the conductance of a solution of 1 cm length and having 1 sq. cm as the area of cross section.
With increase in the temperature, the conductivity of an electrolyte increases with increase in the interaction of the ions. Molar conductivity is defined as the conducting power of all the ions produced by dissolving one mole of an electrolyte in solution. With increase in the temperature, the molar conductivity of an electrolyte increases with increase in the interaction of the ions.
