Question

Define transpiration and transpiration pull?

Open in App
Solution

1. Transpiration is the process by which excess water in plants is lost to the atmosphere in the form of water vapour through tiny pores present on the surface of the leaf called stomata.

2.
Water is continually being lost from leaves by transpiration. This loss of water in the leaves exerts a pull on the water in the xylem ducts and draws more water into the leaf. This is transpiration pull.
