  1. A pure substance is a substance that has a single type of particle having the same chemical nature.
  2. It is further classified into two types: elements and compounds.

Elements:

  1. A pure substance that can neither be reduced further nor can be formed by physical or chemical methods and is made up of same type of atoms.
  2. Example - Iron (Fe), Nitrogen (N), Boron (B).

Compounds:

  1. It is a substance that is formed by mixing two or more elements in a defined ratio.
  2. Example - Methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), steam (H2O).
