Question 7
Δ ABC is right angled at A, AD is perpendicular to BC. If AB = 5 cm, BC = 13 cm and AC = 12, find the area of Δ ABC. Also, find the length of AD.
In right angle triangle BAC, AB = 5 cm and AC = 12 cm
Area of triangle = 12×base×height = 12×AB×AC
=12×5×12=30 cm2
Now, in Δ ABC,
Area of triangle ABC = 12×BC×AD
⇒ 30 = 12×13×AD
⇒ AD = 30×213 = 6013cm = 4.615 cm
