Depending on the duration, the diseases are classified as:
Acute
Chronic
When a disease is present only for short duration, it is known as acute disease. e.g. fever due to viral infection.
When a disease condition persists for a long time, such disease is known as chronic disease. e.g. tuberculosis (T.B).
When the immediate cause of the disease is a presence of any pathogen, it is known as infectious disease. e.g. cholera.
When the cause of a disease is not any pathogen and it is internal, then such disease is called as non-infectious. e.g. cancer.
