Solution

Each point: 1 Mark

1. An object increases its energy when it raises to a height h. This is because work is done against the gravity. It is also called gravitational potentials energy.
Expression for gravitational potentials energy.

2. Consider the mass of the object m which is raised through a height h from the ground floor to do this energy required:
Force = mg
Work done = Force × Displacement = mgh,
3. Energy gained by the object is mgh, So, the potential energy of the object is mgh.
Note: Potentials energy of the object depends on the height of the object from the ground level. An object can have certain potentials energy with respect to one level and different potentials energy with respect to another level.
