Question

Derive relation between molarity and molality. Calculate molality of 1M HCl solution having density 1.5365g/mol.

Open in App
Solution

Molarity=( Number of moles of solute Volume of solution in litres)
while Molality= moles of solute weight of solvent in kg
the above two have a relationship as,
Molality= molarity (density of the solution molarity)×molecular weight of solute
Molality of the 1MHCl is given by,
Molality=1(1.5365g/mol1)×36.46g/mol
Molality=0.05112
