Question

Describe a method to determine the density of an irregular solid.

Open in App
Solution

Aim:-To calculate the density of an irregular solid using a eureka can.

Materials required:-Eureka can, a beaker, an irregular object such as stone, water, or thread.

Method:-

  1. Fill the eureka can with water till it starts to overflow. Wait till it stops overflowing.
  2. Place the beaker under the spout so that water will collect in it if it overflows.
  3. Tie a thread around the stone and slowly lower the stone into the eureka can.

Observation and conclusion:-The water overflow from the spout of the eureka can wait till the overflow stops and note the level of water in the beaker.

The volume of water collected in the beaker is equal to the volume of the stone that was immersed in the eureka can. Calculate density using formulae.

Density=massvolume
