Describe a method to measure the area of an irregular shape?

The area of an irregular shaped object can be obtained by using a centimetre graph sheet.

1. Take a centimetre graph sheet, and place the irregular shaped object on the graph sheet.
2. Draw an outline of the object with a pencil and remove the object.
3. Count the number of complete squares within the outline.
4. Count the number of squares that are either half or more then half within the outline.
5. The formula for calculating the area is, $Area=(Numberofcompletesquares)c{m}^2+\frac{1}{2}\times (numberofhalf/morethanhalfsquares)c{m}^2$.
6. Hence the area of an irregular shaped object is obtained.
