Describe an activity to show how an iron nail/ bar can be magnetized.

1. Take an iron bar or the nail AB and place it on the table.
2. Bring a bar magnet NS and place it almost vertical with its north pole on the end A of the nail.
3. Move the magnet along the iron bar/nail till the end B is reached as shown in the figure.
4. Lift the magnet at the end B and again place it on the end A as shown in fig.
5. Repeat the activity about 20 times 15 times.
6. Rotate the nail and repeat the above process again about 15 times.
7. The iron bar now turns into a magnet.

The above method of magnetizing a nail is called the single-touch method.
