Solution

Plastics that deform easily on heating and can be reshaped are known as thermoplastics. Examples of thermoplastics are PVC, polythene, and PET.
Activity to show that thermoplastic is a poor conductor of electricity-
  • We’ll build a circuit to demonstrate that thermoplastic is a poor conductor of electricity.
  • A bulb, some cables, a battery, a piece of metal, and a plastic pipe are required.
  • Two circuits are made- one for a metal and other for a plastic pipe.
  • When the current is switched on, we see that the bulb glows in a circuit containing a metal, whereas the bulb does not glow in a circuit containing a plastic pipe.
This indicates that thermoplastic is a poor conductor of electricity.
