Describe an activity to verify the Archimedes principle.

  1. A small piece of mass is tied with the hook of a spring balance as shown in the figure.
  2. The spring of the balance gets stretched and shows the weight of the mass. Let the weight be w1 .
  3. Now the mass is dipped completely in water in a vessel fitted with a side spout.
  4. It is found that extension of the spring decreases, showing new weight W2.​​​
  5. This shows that the body loses weight when immersed in a liquid.
  6. The weight of the collected water is calculated and it is found that this weight is equal to the weight of the stone.

Hence, it proves Archimedes' principle.
