Question

Describe an experiment to prove that air is needed for burning.

Open in App
Solution

Air is needed for burning. To prove this, fix a candle on the table, light it and then cover it with a transparent beaker. The candle will burn initially but after some time, it will stop burning. This is because oxygen was initially present and all of it was consumed by the burning candle. Thus, when no oxygen was present, the candle stopped burning. This shows that air having oxygen is needed for burning.
